One more shot from the Toronto visit.  This is the outside of Steve Mann‘s gallery/house near the University of Toronto.

And here’s the thing:  On the outside is a giant QR code.  What are you supposed to do with QR codes?  Take pictures of them, so that you can be directed to a website.  But right in the middle of this one is a symbol that says “no cameras.”  So take a picture.  But don’t.

But wait, there’s more.  If you do take a picture of the building, it notices and it will take a picture of you too.  And then post your picture on its website.

From last week when I was in Toronto for the IEEE International Symposium on Technology and Society.

Here’s a group of us out for a different kind of photo walk.  We’re all pointing our cameras at a surveillance camera.  It’s watching us.  And we’re watching it.  The point of course is not to just hold up cameras at the surveillance infrastructure.  But to level the playing field.  By having many people participate, you get to a state of “equiveillance.”  Check out the talks from the conference for more.

For US Independence Day, how about a nice Canadian photo?  From last week when I was in Toronto for the IEEE International Symposium on Technology and Society.

Ok, I know the reflection is pretty hard to see through. But really, what is this for?  Do you need a simulated family?
