So, not only can I not remember the plot of the movie, I can’t even remember the title correctly.  It’s “Escape TO Witch Mountain.”  And really, it’s just the notion of spookiness and a storm on a mountain that I’m after. Because that’s what these silversides swimming against the top of the wall suggested to me.  Kind of like seeing your headlights reflected by back by a driving rain as you race around the mountain at night.

And this is why the dive site is called Pearl Farm Jetty.

Shells in a frame hanging from the jetty.

I spent over an hour “in class” with this school. Sometimes they were a big wall of fish. Sometimes I was able to swim into the middle of the school and then they arranged into a giant fishy doughnut. Focus on the breath. In. Out. Look at fish. Best meditation ever.

Now, the only problem is on your next dive trip. You know the drill. You get on the dive boat and they’re trying to size you up — do you know what you’re doing or are they going to have to watch you very carefully. And so the standard 2 questions: “How long since your last dive? And how deep?” And you know the eyebrows are going to go up when you say “15 feet.” And someone will ask if you were diving in a pool.

Oh well.  So many great dives on this trip.  And some of my favorite ones were on jetties in very little water.

Ok, back in the water. And back to shooting through Snell’s Window.  Jewel fish.  Crimson soft corals. Green trees.  Blue sky.

I heard that warning — watch yourself — maybe a million times in my youth. And since I heard it from one particular person, glad I still do.

But here, under the jetty, it is true. There isn’t a ton of room. You don’t want to bump into things and damage them. And you really don’t want to bump into guys (girls?) like this. All those pretty spines on the lionfish have venom. Don’t touch.

If you’re one of those people, maybe you like this shot better than yesterday’s. Same place. No fish.

I loved this dive site.  Out past the end of the jetty, the current was whipping by.  But on the site things were calmer.  It was about noon and the sun was perfectly overhead to get those nice rays through the jetty.  And that wall of Fusiliers was pretty nice too.  My fellow Team Olympus friend Suzy got a great shot of them circling a pole.
