Never Say Never, Indeed

Home port Fairbanks, AK?  It’s kind of far from the shore, so it seems kind of unlikely.  But you know, “never say never.”

Big spring from the train.  And with that, we were back to Anchorage.  A quick bike ride along the Anchorage waterfront park and then back to the Bay Area.

We were sad to see Alaska in the rear view.  Our first trip there.  I bet not our last.

All Aboard

We took the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Denali and then back. A nice ride. We saw moose and eagles and even salmon in the rivers below from the train.  Passes through Wasilla.  Didn’t see her.

The Great One

The sun really does stay up late here in the summer. This is a shot of Denali just before midnight. From across the little kettle lake at Camp Denali. If you get a chance to stay there, you will like it.

Here’s another shot, from just a little earlier in the evening. The mountain is glowing.

Traffic in Denali

Ok, not a great shot, but a fun day. Turns out that in Denali, the bears like to use the road too. What you don’t see in this shot is that backed up behind the bear are four busses. And the bear was taking his time. Walk a little. Stop and eat a little. Walk a little more. Great show for us — we were right there in front. For the people stuck behind the other busses? It was probably a long 30+ minutes for them.

Rosie and Her Friend

In Sitka, in the golden light just before “sunset.” (It’s midsummer, so, late.) I was walking by this pond, trying to take pictures of water lilies and whatever else I could find. I passed these two ladies, then stopped to shoot a little. Then passed them again. Then stopped to shoot a little more. Then caught up to them again. They had seen me shooting and asked me to take a picture of them.

Now, if you’ve been following along, you know that I’m not a street photographer. Maybe just not brave enough to get up close. So, I didn’t hesitate. I love the shot.
