This was one of a small school of about a half dozen rays that had been resting, mostly buried, on the bottom. When our little group approached, all but this guy shook off their sand and swam away. Less shy, he hung out and let me at least get a shot.

And, yes, you guessed it. While this guy certainly isn’t a manta, he is much bigger than the things I was after. So you’re seeing only a small part of him. And I’m further away from him that from most of the other things I shot on this trip.

Since somewhere along the way the metadata is getting stripped, here’s “hand made EXIF.” All of these shots are with Olympus OM-D EM-5 with the 12-50mm lens in macro mode (at 43mm) in a Nauticam housing. One Sea & Sea YS-100alpha strobe.
